Our Heritage

About Bernat Yarn

Bernat Yarn’s history began back in Boston around 1902. Our past is deeply rooted in the textile industry. Initially, we produced high-quality dyed yarns for textile conservation. Later in the 1920s, we began the production of weaving yarns and looms. And became a major American textile producer with multiple mills in Uxbridge, Massachusetts, in 1962. We introduced popular yarns like Bernat Nylo Germantown yarn and Bernat Blarneyspun yarn.

Bernat Yarn Heritage - Quality Yarn Manufacturing Since 1902

Emile Bernat, the founder of Bernat Yarns, was a Hungarian chemist and restorer who moved to Boston and specialised in tapestry restoration and as a dye chemist. He worked for the Museum of Fine Arts. The company Emile Bernat & Sons was incorporated in 1927.

Today, Bernat operates under the Yarnspirations umbrella, producing a variety of yarns for modern crafting enthusiasts.
